The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (President Park Sang-jin hereinafter KIMM) under the Ministry of Science and ICT will host the 2021 Global Mechanical Technology Forum online with the theme of The base of carbon neutrality hydrogen mechanical technology on September 8th (Wed) to have the stage to overlook hydrogen mechanical technology which is the core of advancing the carbon-neutral society.

Starting with the EU major countries around the world including the U.S. and China have recently declared zero carbon emissions by 2050 and are eagerly announcing various policies. Global companies are also joining the trend to accelerate technology development. Working together to achieve the goal of Carbon neutrality despite fierce competition shows that achieving carbon neutrality is recognized as not just a problem for a country or a specific industry but a matter of human survival.

The forum will be co-hosted by the National Assembly members of the Minjoo Party of Korea Lee Sang-min and Cho Seung-rae and Kim Young-sik a National Assembly member of People Power Party of Korea. Cho Seung-rae and Kim Young-sik cochair the National Assemblys Science and Technology Powerhouse Forum and this years forum attracts more attention as it is held under the theme of Base on Carbon Neutrality Hydrogen Mechanical Technology in the middle of a growing sense of crisis over climate change including unusual high temperatures cold weather and the threat of infectious diseases that have been raging for more than a year.

The keynote speech will be given by Detlef Stolten (professor at RWTH Aachen University) director of Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK) under the Ulrich Institute (Forschungszentrum Jülich) in Germany. Professor Stolten a world-renowned scholar in the hydrogen economy who served as chairman of the Fuel Cells Division of the International Energy Agency (IEA) will deliver a keynote speech on the theme of boosting the distribution of hydrogen technology to realize carbon neutrality.

Under the theme of hydrogen utilization technology the first session will be proceeded as Advent of a Hydrogen Society and Future Vision 2030 by Vice President of Hyundai Motor Kim Se-hoon and an announcement on the development of ships operated by hydrogen fuel cells utilizing liquefied hydrogen by CEO Steiner Madsen of Wilhelmsen Topeka Inc. in Norway.

In the second session Werner Ponikwar CEO of Germanys Linde Hydrogen Fuel Tech GmbH a global leader in the use of liquid hydrogen will present The World of Hydrogen Built by Linde under the theme of large-capacity hydrogen liquefaction storage and transportation while Choi Byung-il head of the Plant Convergence Research Division at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology who heads Commercial Liquid Hydrogen Plant Research Group will present Plan for Constructing Koreas Liquefied Hydrogen Infrastructure.

Anyone wishing to participate in the 2021 Global Mechanical Technology Forum can apply in advance on the forums website (http://forum.kimm.re.kr). The forum will be held online and after completing the pre-application registration related materials such as the forums green house can be received online. In addition it is able to ask the speaker questions in advance. On the day that the forum is held it will be broadcast live on the homepage and YouTube channel.

Park Sang-jin the president of KIMM said Carbon neutrality is an inevitable task of the era and the forum will be a meaningful place for us to move forward in the face of the big trend of the era carbon neutrality and hydrogen economy. We will find ways for the people and industries to participate in achieving carbon neutrality more easily and effectively by leading the construction of hydrogen mechanical technology infrastructure.

KIMM said In the face of the two huge trends of carbon neutral and hydrogen economy we ask for a lot of attention so that it can be a meaningful place to promote what we should prepare scientifically and the policy supports that our government can provide. Meanwhile since 2014 the KIMM has held an international academic forum inviting global industries researchers and academic experts every year to discuss future issues in the field of mechanical technology and discuss pending issues.
